Steampunk Astronaut

In 2018 the National Space Centre in Leicester ran a ‘Space Race Exhibition’ as part of their annual Steampunks in Space event. The theme was the Victorian Space Agency and participants created a variety of costumes, models and sculptures with this in mind.

This was my piece and it’s a silicon head on a mannequin that I’ve dressed in various steampunk costume pieces that I’ve created over the years. The head started life as a chavant oil clay sculpture which I moulded and then cast using Dragon Skin silicon which is manufactured by Smooth-on. Here’re some pics.

Smooth-on and some of their partner companies also tweeted about the sculpture and a video series that I created showing the making of the piece, which was nice.

And here’s the video series.
