Here’s the completed sculpture of Oldroid III, my third attempt at this particular idea.  This one’s alot closer to how I originally envisaged the idea.  I’m quite pleased at how it’s come out – the paint job looks quite realistic and is pretty subtle – I just applied thin washes of red and brown to various areas and it’s really brought it to life.

I’ve also encountered a problem where imperfections in the sculpey have shown up after cooking.  This happened on the back and head here and are visible in some pictures, but hardly at all on the face and front of the sculpture, so sigh of relief there.  I think the imperfections are caused when two bits of clay aren’t properly mixed together.  The front of the sculpture was raked to mixed up the clay and I took care to mix bits together when adding pieces on the face.  This seems to have done the trick, so lesson learned for next time.

I’ve been adding some more mechanical detailing to the sculpture, essentially by embedding bits of metal in the clay.  The cogs in the head are a small arrangement that I’ve soldered together.  Trying to avoid having this look too much like the terminator! ;)

Here’s another new piece, another iteration on my previous Oldroid concept.  I never felt I quite got this as I wanted it so here’s another go.
